Lead Bullets? Collectors Weekly

May 01, 2006 #1 Hi Guys, I friend of mine gave me these old cases because he knew I liked antique firearms. I hoping someone has an idea of what they might be for. There is no headstamp, so the easy answer is not available, and out came the calipers. The measurements are: Overall length: 2.508 Case length: 2.086 Case diameter (mouth): 0.479

This means rifle barrels need a faster twist rate to stabilise these bullets. Your rifle, while accurate with a lead-cored bullet, may not stabilise a lead-free one. The 6mm or .243 is a case in point.

Here's a challenge to all the bullet buffs of PW. The pics that follow were taken recently by a friend of mine who has got into metal-detecting. He discovered this bullet in an old quarry.
